SOUND HEALING produces beneficial changes in these systems:

Autonomic nervous
Immune
Endocrine
Neuropeptide
Circulatory
Metabolic

Brainwaves

Everything that IS vibrates, from the smallest particle to the universe itself. As long as it is
vibrating, it is creating some kind of tone or sound whether audible or not. The human ear can hear sound vibrations between 20 and 20,000 cycles per second, but we also perceive sound by skin and bone conduction, ingesting and consuming it with the whole body.

The frequency at which an object or person most naturally vibrates is called resonance. The chakras, bones, blood and organs in the body all posses a different resonant frequency. A body is in a healthy state of being when each individual cell creates a resonance that is in harmony with the whole body. When any part of the body is vibrating out of tune or non-harmoniously, it is called dis-ease.

Vibrational medicine is based on the idea that an illness or dis-ease is characterized by blockage in the channels of “flow” on some level; either in the meridians, nadis, arteries, veins or nerves. This stops the resonant vibration, impedes health, and results in negative symptoms or illness. Sound projected into the body corrects the harmonic patterns, thereby releasing the blockages and
re-opening the flow of energy. Because our bodies are sensitive to sound and react to it, awareness of how it affects us is of great importance. Sounds can be soothing, irritating, exciting, invigorating, relaxing, stimulating and these are just the emotional aspects they create. But they also create similar physical responses in the organs and body systems, so it is important to pay attention to what sounds you allow into your body.

Because our bodies are very crystalline in nature, especially components of our brain, blood and bone, we respond exceptionally well to the tones produced by quartz crystal bowls. And because thought forms are energy, they can even affect states of consciousness by altering brainwave frequencies. This can shift emotional trauma, thought patterns, depression, anxiety and the like.

Crystal bowls come in each note of the musical scale, multiple sizes and are frosted or clear. There are also ultra light bowls and practitioner bowls that come with quartz handles on them. Some are now being manufactured with colors and other substances in them, eg. the moldavite bowl. There are many manufacturers, quality levels and prices out there, so pick carefully and research them well. I am, of course, partial to the company I got all my bowls from (I have 13, which includes a chakra tuned set). It is a great healing gift to give yourself one. If you have any questions about what kind, what note, etc., feel free to contact me.

Tuning forks are another healing application of sound, especially using two of them together with specific harmonic intervals. Research has shown that the harmonic interval is as important as the notes of the tuning forks themselves. Some advantages of tuning forks over crystal bowls are that they are less expensive, unbreakable, very small and travel easily.        Drumming is another form of sound healing. Most of us have experienced at one time or another, the powerful effects the beat of the drum has on us. It is probably why it is one of the most ancient musical instruments and included in rites, rituals and dance in almost all cultures. It is
the primal heartbeat within us. Being in or  attending a drumming group can be very healing. Even playing one solo at home, especially to music recorded for that purpose, is a wonderful health benefit. Another take on drumming and a wonderful technique for health and body resonance is “body drumming”. Lying or sitting on the floor or bed, you need only cup your hands and drum on your trunk and limbs. Doing this to a drumming record enhances the technique immensely. Scott Fitzgerald’s albums “Thunderdance”and “Thunder Mountain” are excellent choices for body drumming and just drumming in general. Doing this with a friend is great as you can body drum on each others backs. Have a “body drumming” party; it’s great fun and oh so healing and healthy!

Toning is another form of vibrational healing. It is merely the art of using your own voice to set up resonant frequencies within your own body to help it balance and heal itself. It is done by taking a deep breath and creating a long or short vowel sound musically with your voice as you let it out. To be MOST effective, you want to hold the same note through the whole breath as it is more effective in setting up resonance in the body. You can change notes with each new breath and see what feels best in your body, high notes or low ones, and also see where you feel the resonance in your body. You can also, by intention, SEND the vibrational note to a specific area in your body. I once got rid of a bad earache doing this. It’s amazing how much pain control you can generate using your
own voice! It can also be very relaxing when you are irritated or upset, and it can be very energizing when you are tired or sleepy. I often tone when I get sleepy driving and it’s not long before I am wide awake and energized. I often tone when I am doing energy work on a client as it opens the flow of energy and increases its potency.

The advantages of toning are that it’s free, you take it with you wherever you go, and you can do it anywhere, anytime. It’s such an incredible tool, it even works when you do it almost silently! Again, Johnathan Goldman’s website is a wealth of information and he is one of America’s top sound healers. If you want to pursue this modality further, you can find lots of information on the web by just putting in “sound healing”. I encourage you to at least give toning a try for your health and well-being. You will be pleasantly surprised at what it can do for you!
